What is a builder bag?

A builder bag — also known as a bulk bag, jumbo bag, or FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container) — is a large woven polypropylene bag typically holding around 0.5 to 1 cubic metre of material. They're widely used on construction sites and for garden and household clearances as a convenient way to contain and move large volumes of waste.

What can I put in a builder bag for collection?

Accepted Answer

We accept general builder's waste, rubble, concrete, bricks, soil, turf, green waste, renovation materials (tiles, plasterboard, flooring), and general household clearance waste. We cannot accept hazardous materials such as asbestos, chemicals, paint or tyres in builder bags — call us to discuss specialist disposal for these.

How heavy can a builder bag be?

Accepted Answer

Standard builder bags are rated to hold up to 1 tonne of material, but in practice we recommend keeping bags to a manageable weight for safe lifting. Very dense materials like concrete and soil fill up quickly — a bag of rubble can easily weigh 500–800kg. If in doubt, use two bags rather than one very heavy one.

Do you supply the builder bags?

We can supply empty builder bags if needed — just ask when you book. Alternatively, you can source your own from any builders' merchant. The standard size is approximately 90cm x 90cm x 90cm.

Question 6

Do I need to be present for the collection?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. As long as the bags are accessible and you've given us clear instructions about where they are, we can collect without you being present. We'll confirm the collection and send your Waste Transfer Note by email.

Question 7

What documentation do I receive?

Accepted Answer

You'll receive a Waste Transfer Note after every collection. This is your legal proof that the waste was removed by a licensed carrier and disposed of compliantly. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, you have a Duty of Care to ensure your waste is handled correctly — the WTN is your evidence of compliance.
